Sure Jell Recipes: The Secret to Perfect Jam in less 1h

  • Author: Lola
  • Total Time: 35 minutes
  • Yield: About 67 cups of jam 1x

Description

Discover the magic of Sure-Jell and learn how to make sweet, flavorful homemade jam in under an hour. Whether you’re preserving strawberries, raspberries, or mixed fruit, this foolproof recipe delivers a glossy, perfectly set jam every time—no canning expertise needed!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups crushed fresh fruit (e.g., strawberries, raspberries, or a mix)

  • 7 cups granulated sugar

  • 1 box Sure-Jell fruit pectin (1.75 oz)

  • ¾ cup water

  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice (optional, for enhanced tartness)

  • ½ teaspoon unsalted butter (optional, to reduce foaming)

Instructions

  • Prep the Fruit: Wash, hull, and crush your fruit using a potato masher. Measure exactly 4 cups of crushed fruit into a large saucepan.

  • Mix the Pectin: In a separate small saucepan, combine the Sure-Jell pectin with ¾ cup water. Bring to a boil, stirring constantly. Boil for 1 minute. Remove from heat.

  • Combine and Heat: Stir the pectin mixture into the fruit. Add lemon juice (if using). Bring the mixture to a full rolling boil on high heat.

  • Add Sugar: Quickly stir in the sugar all at once. Stir continuously and return to a full rolling boil. Boil hard for exactly 1 minute.

  • Skim Foam: Remove from heat. Skim off any foam with a spoon. Add butter if desired to minimize foam.

  • Jar the Jam: Immediately ladle hot jam into prepared jars, leaving ¼ inch space at the top. Wipe rims and seal with lids.

  • Cool and Store: Let jars cool to room temperature. Store in the fridge for up to 3 weeks or freeze for longer shelf life.

Notes

  • Use ripe, high-quality fruit for the best flavor.

  • Freezer-safe plastic containers can also be used instead of glass jars.

  • You can double the recipe, but never cut the sugar or pectin—ratios are crucial for the set.
